The setups I include on this blog are used in conjunction with the 3/10macd and the criteria I ascribe to it as a way to alert me to an existing condition of price. The key concept to take away from this blog is that I try to anticipate what will happen on the higher time frame by using a faster time frame to trigger the trade setup. I do not trade a "system" I use two indicators to clue me in to price conditions. Please read the Disclaimer located in the sidebar of this site. I can be contacted via email at toddstrade@gmail.com
I am always open to questions, comments, or suggestions on how to improve this blog.

Arrows on higher time frame indicate anticipatory trades that are entered using the faster time frame.

ES with Globex range

Thu. 06_06

Choppy fu*$%ng chop.  End of day was more pleasant.  Was buying in the morning because of the 3d criteria setting up on the 15min.  The shakeout was interesting.

Breadth

Higher time frame

The buy divergence setting up on the higher time frame (65min) we'd be looking for a 3d or 3d setup on the 15-minute, like below, it got choppy but you had to stick with it, you're not going to catch any fish if you don't keep casting your lure.

ES with globex and potential entries

ES with Globex - didn't take the entry for this in the morning, it was the bar preceding the bar with the up arrow on the 5min chart above (the bar before the one with an "X" underneath it).

Breadth - started out moderately strong from the open, broke out above 200k by 11:00am

Volume Profile coming into the day - Shorts not going to press anything into the numbers tomorrow. Opened right under a HVN  then proceeded to move higher through the next two HVN's

A good example, on the higher time frame, where a sell divergence in a momentum indicator doesn't mean price has to go down.  The daily 3/10macd showing a sell divergence and a down-ticking fast line, yet closed at a higher high

Pretty neat that the ES closed at a lower high, just under 1600 going into tomorrow's  numbers.  Can go either way

Got chopped up in the middle-morning and took early "signals" later on

First hour

Breadth

Volume profile coming into the day, the opening rotations tested the previous day's High Volume Nodes

ES globex - basically the faster time frame "triggered" around the same time that the higher time frame did which resulted in a wider stop tolerance needed and longer patience for the consolidation ro resolve

Higher time frame - still potential for the faster time frame (65min) to pull back (fast line pull back to the slow line), but equally likely for a trend line break and a move back to the $157 area

worth watching

Looking at the U.S. Dollar Index that could have potential up-side.
The monthly has been consolidating within an inside range for the past three years and is showing the 2c criteria.  However, this 2c criteria doesn't have the strong trend aspect I would prefer to see with this setup.
The weekly has the 3d criteria which I like to see with the higher time frame 2c-2d.  So, we're looking for a breakout of the overhead trend line.

With a 3d criteria the resistance we need to overcome is usually the 3a/b criteria that preceded it (the shaded region  in the weekly chart (left) below

The weekly 3d criteria had a buy trigger on the Daily on Feb. 6th.  It looks like a long above the current highs, but a pullback would be nicer to see (3b-1a criteria)

today's trade:
A key for the above chart to define the horizontal lines and dots.  For further explanation, see this link:

The quick move out of the open left me on the sidelines.  Criteria 1a is less about trading a 5-min 3/10macd trigger than it is about buying a breakout (particularly on a faster time frame, like the 3-min).
First trade long was a small loss (didn't wait for the large 5-min red bar to close).
Second trade, the first short had two exits.
Third trade was a little worse than scratch.
Fourth trade, short, was meh.
Fifth trade, long, was a scalp into the close.

Higher time frame;
Looking for a tick up in the 65min 3/10 macd fast line (3a-1a) with a trigger being the 15-min 3/10macd fast line going green

Fri 11_09

I didn't participate in much of today's trade.  The arrows in the chart below represent potential entries.  I only traded the 1:30 setup, had I been at my computer I might have taken the entry around 2:30 which may or may not have wiped out my gains from the previous trade.

Today's trade; the ideal entry was the pullback to the o/s_high (also the overnight range midpoint)

Thought I would include the Advance/Decline as it showed another example of zer-line support today

Daily time frame 50% Fib. projection target fell just short (though hit it in the overnight trade).  The faster time frame starting to diverge on the lower lows which could present a bounce into next week, just in time for OpEX

repeat

The SPY has been repeating a similar cycle for the past two weeks.
Following a short squeeze type of rally, price has then rolled over in an XYZ corrective wave.
The 3/10macd 3a criteria describes price as testing resistance.  Should resistance break and price goes higher the fast line shows greater momentum and the slow line is often pulled positive.  This behavior can often begin a new trend.  However, rather then a trend developing, what we have seen is price being sold and correcting most/all of the previous gains.
Here are two looks at what I'm talking about, the latter just highlighting the XYZ waves

A broader look in the chart below; we haven't gone very far, but there are clear areas to watch
